Sister City Association

Our Mission:
The purpose of MISCA is to promote the mutual exchange of knowledge, culture and economic development between the people of Minneapolis, Minnesota and the people of Ibaraki City, Japan, to achieve greater international understanding in the interest of world peace.
What we do:
To fulfill its mission – which is to build good will, friendships and opportunities between the two cities – MISCA has throughout the years sponsored many different cultural exchanges/programs. Current programs offered by MISCA in Minneapolis are it’s Cherry Tree Festival each May on Mother’s Day, and participating in Minneapolis’s Sister Cities Day each July; where we provide activities for participants to learn about Japanese activities/history/culture.
One of its longest running programs is the Annual Haiku Contest – where Minneapolis Public School Students are invited to write and submit Haiku on the current years theme. This contest has grown with the help of Minneapolis School teachers to approximately five hundred entries every year! Winning students receive certificates and gift from Ibaraki at an Awards Ceremony held during the Cherry Tree Festival.
MISCA also often hosts groups of adults from Ibaraki who come to practice their English skills as well as to learn more about the people of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Due to the popularity of these visits from Ibaraki, MISCA is now implementing more frequent trips to Ibaraki for Twin Cities residents to learn more about Ibaraki and its people.
MISCA currently holds its Board Meetings via Zoom. If you wish to attend a meeting, please email us at misca.info@gmail.com

We are working to get our site back up. Keep checking back for updates!
